Custom music

Custom music for commercials and brands

Sonomore writes custom music for commercials and brands: original music composed and produced to your brief and cut to picture, delivered with stems and cutdowns. It’s licensed the same way as our catalog, so there’s one agreement and one point of contact from the brief to the final mix.

Written to brief

Original music for ads

Sometimes the right track doesn’t exist yet. The edit has a rhythm the music needs to follow, the brand needs a sound that belongs to it alone, or the script calls for a song nobody has written. That’s when custom music beats licensing from a catalog.

We write to picture. Send the cut, or an animatic or script if you’re earlier in the process, along with references you like (and any you don’t), and we’ll write music that lands the hits, leaves room for the voiceover and resolves on the end card.

If a track from the catalog already fits, we’ll tell you. It’s usually the quicker route.

For agencies and brands

Music production for advertising agencies, and custom songs for brands

For agencies. We work the way agency production does: a clear brief, a clear quote and files your editor can use straight away. Questions about rights and paperwork go to the same contact as the music, so nothing gets lost between teams.

For brands. A custom song or theme can travel across a whole campaign, from the hero film to social cutdowns, and give the brand a sound people recognize. We write it once, properly, and deliver it in the versions every channel needs.

Songs and sonic ideas. We write vocal songs as well as instrumental music, so a brief that calls for a lyric, a hook or a sung line is welcome.

Process

How custom music works

Four steps from brief to delivery.

  1. Brief

Send the cut or script, references, deliverables, media, term, territory and your deadline.

  2. Approach and quote

We reply with how we’d approach the music and a quote for writing, production and the license.

  3. Write to picture

We write and produce against your edit and share work in progress for your feedback.

  4. Deliver

Final mix, instrumental, stems and cutdowns, licensed in one agreement.

What you get

What you get

Music that works in every version of the campaign.

  • One agreement

Master and sync rights in a single license, from one company.

  • WAV files

Full-quality WAV files of the final mix, ready for the online edit.

  • Broadcast‑ready mixes

Produced, mixed and mastered to broadcast standard.

  • Instrumental

The track without vocals, for dialogue and voiceover.

  • Stems

Separate parts so your editor can rebuild hits, lifts and endings.

  • Cutdowns

Edits to common spot lengths, on request.

One-stop

Custom, and still one-stop

Custom music doesn’t have to mean a separate composer agreement, a publisher agreement and a master agreement. We write, produce and license the music ourselves, so the rights you need are set out in one agreement.

What those rights are, for how long and where, is agreed in the quote, based on how you’ll use the music.

FAQ

Custom music: questions

What agencies and brands ask before commissioning music.

Read the music licensing FAQ

What do you need from us to start a custom track?

A brief that covers the project and audience, the cut or timings, references you like (and any you don't), media, term and territory, the deliverables you need and your deadline. A rough cut or animatic helps us write to picture.

Can you deliver stems and cutdowns for custom music?

Yes. Custom tracks can be delivered as a full mix, instrumental, stems and cutdowns such as :15, :30 and :60, so the music works across every version of the campaign.

Should we license an existing track or commission custom music?

If a track in the catalog already fits, licensing it is usually the quickest route. Custom makes sense when you need music that follows a specific edit, a sound that belongs to your brand alone, or a song that doesn't exist yet. Send the brief and we'll tell you which we'd recommend.
